Radio Instruments installation Tutorial

  1. Setup RIOT 4.4c (Radio Instruments Orientation Trainer) - Download it here
  2. Install the application normally. If you can save it and give it to your friends it saves me bandwidth from all the downloads.
  3. Start it up to make sure it works, and set your location to your locale (Corpus / Whiting). If you need to change it later, just reinstall the RIOT trainer again.

How to set the application to install the RIOT trainer to work on screens set at a resolution larger than 640x480 pixels:

1. Find the shortcut to the RIOT trainer in the start menu.
2. RIGHT-CLICK on the shortcut
3. Highlight and click Properties.

4. Select the compatibility tab.
5. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows NT 4.0 (SP5)
6. Check the checkbox next to "Run in 640x480 screen resolution"
7. OK, and run the RIOT trainer as usual. You will notice the MAG compass is now displayed.

Select "RMI Fail" to kill the RMI for practice MAG compass turns.

Be sure to select "TH-57" for aircraft type.

To force the RIOT trainer to remember the aircraft type:

Add the line "AIRCRAFT=T34C", "AIRCRAFT=T44", or "AIRCRAFT=TH57" (without the quotes) to the Riot.INI file located in C:\WINDOWS. I don't know if the .ini file is always installed in the windows folder, but you can always search for it (In order to search for Riot.INI you have to allow the search to search hidden files and folders).

Thanks for all the requests to help offset the cost of running the website. It costs about $180/year to host it and averages over 34,000 downloads per month with over 2.3 Terabytes downloaded from December 2001 to December 2008. As per your suggestions, here is a Donation button for use with Paypal for your convenience. . Thanks
